About the Department

The Department of Ophthalmology in Sri Ramachandra Hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure to keep up with the advancement in technology in the evaluation and management of eye problem and blindness. The Department boasts of senior consultants, consultants and associate consultants who are well experienced and are excellent in their professional competence.
Outpatient services include refraction and prescription of spectacles, slit lamp bio microscopic evaluation of the anterior and posterior segment and applanation tonometry. Routine screening is undertaken for Glaucoma, Diabetic and Hypertensive retinopathy and Retinopathy of Prematurity in premature infants.
The Advance eye care treatment in the Main Block of the hospital are fully equipped with the latest equipment for investigation and treatment of almost all ophthalmic disorders. These include Digital Fundus Camera-Carl Zeiss, Fundus fluorescein Angiography, Optical coherence tomography, Goldman Perimeter-Carl Zeiss, A and B scans, Argon Laser and Frequency Doubled Yag laser machines. There are three modern theatres where cataract surgeries with foldable and rollable intra ocular lens implantation are regularly undertaken.
Our surgeons have specific training and experience in a broad range of subspecialties such as the cornea, retina, uvea, glaucoma, squint, neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric ophthalmology, orbit, and oculoplasty. The Department is recognized for its work in patient care, education, and research. Training of both undergraduates and postgraduates comprises of both basic and research programs which focus on academic and surgical components. On a regular basis, training is given to both medical and paramedical students.
