Dept. of Psychiatry

Dept. of Psychiatry in collaboration with the Geriatric Care Clinic and Dept. of Clinical Nutrition organized a panel session on the topic, ‘Impact of Nutrition on Cognition’, to mark World Alzheimer’s Day – 2018 on 24th September 2018. More than 300 faculty members, staff and students from various department of SRIHER (DU) and students from other colleges participated.

Faculty of Pharmacy celebrated the World Pharmacists Day on 24th & 25th September 2018 with the theme, ‘Pharmacists: Your Medicines Experts.’ Mr. Thiruvengadam Rajagopal, Managing Director, Tablets (India) Ltd., Chennai was the chief guest. The Annual Report of the Faculty of Pharmacy (2017-’18) and the newsletter of the Dept. of Pharmacy Practice were released.The events included:

Dept. of Physiotherapy observed the World Physiotherapy Day on 8th September 2018 by conducting an awareness program on ‘Need for Physical Activity’ through posters and pamphlets.150 outpatients benefited.

Dept. of Neuroradiology & Interventional Radiology

Dept. of Neuroradiology & Interventional Radiology conducted RAIN 2018 as a part of NEUROVASCON-2018 preconference live endovascular workshop on 7th September 2018. Dr. Rene Chapot, Head, Chief Physician, Dept. of Neuroradiology, Alfred Krup Hospital, Essen, Germany was the chief guest. A live workshop was telecast from Neurocathlab to the University Auditorium on 7th September 2018. Around 250 delegates attended.

Faculty of Physiotherapy organized the 3rd Smt. Kamalam Ramasamy Udayar Endowment Oration in Physiotherapy on ‘Physiotherapy Journey: A Hitchhiker’s Tales’ by Prof. Savita Ravindra, HOD, Dept. of Physiotherapy, Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru on 6th September 2018. 120 delegates attended.

Dept. of Clinical Nutrition observed the National Nutrition Week – 2018 with the theme, ‘Ensuring Focused Interventions on Addressing Undernutrition during the First 1000 days of the Child; Better Health’ from 1st to 7th September 2018. The events included:

The Center for Early Childhood Caries Research was inaugurated (CECCRe) at the Dept. of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry on 29th August 2018. A book titled ‘Journey so Far’ authored by the faculty members of the Dept. of Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry was released.

Medical Education Unit – MCI recognized Nodal Center conducted a Revised Basic Course Workshop (RBCW) followed by a Sensitization Program on Attitude, Ethics and Communication (AET-COM) competencies on Medical Education Technologies from 16th to 19th August 2018. 30 and 25 faculty members attended respectively.

Dept. of Pathology conducted the 2nd International Conference on Update in Diagnostic Pathology, Morphology, Immunohistochemistry and Ancillary techniques from 2nd to 4th August 2018. The guest speakers were Dr. Victor G. Prieto, Dept. Chair along with five of his colleagues from MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA and Dr. Neil A. Abrahams, Director, Renal and GU Programs, Memorial Healthcare System, Florida. A website, ‘srmcpathacademics’ was also launched. 150 delegates across the globe participated.

Dept. of Pediatrics along with Depts. of Neonatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatric Nursing, Community Health Nursing and Clinical Nutrition celebrated the World Breastfeeding Week – 2018 with the theme, ‘Breastfeeding – Foundation of Life’ from 1st to 7th August 2018. Our university students won the winners and runners-up trophy in Adukalam 2018, an inter-medical tournament from 19th to 22nd September 2018 at Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai.

B. Sc. Sports & Exercise Science students won the Tamil Nadu State Inter University Swimming Competition 2018-’19 conducted by Kalasalingam University, Krishnan Koil held on 25th & 26th September 2018. The women team was awarded an over-all championship.
